چکیده

Urban flooding is estimated to cause £270 million pounds worth of damage each year in England and Wales alone. There has, therefore, been a clear need to develop improved methods of identifying intervention strategies to reduce flood risk in urban environments. This paper describes ground-work performed towards evaluating the relative suitability of several algorithms applied to multi-objective optimisation of flood risk intervention strategies in an urban drainage network. An effective methodology is described for reducing an array of return period/duration rainfall files to a minimum, and it is described how this methodology makes possible comparisons of optimisation algorithms. This work has been undertaken as part of a STREAM-IDC EngD project which is a collaborative effort between the University of Exeter, and HR Wallingford. © 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. The use of flood risk map for flood management (urban area of Nekarood)

Flood is considered as a major threat among natural disasters in the world. This case becomes more important and has a higher risk in urban areas due to the existence of important uses. Therefore, to reduce damages resulted from flood, this phenomenon must be managed and planned using structural and non-structural approaches. Considering the development in Iran has been carried out in high risk...

Risk analysis of urban flood in Bandar Abbas using Machine Learning model and Analytic Hierarchy Process

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Floods are one of the natural events that cause human casualties and damage to buildings, facilities, gardens, fields, and natural resources every year. Urbanization disturbs the balance of slopes through indirect intrusion within watersheds, kills vegetation, soil compaction, and changes in the profile of waterways, increases the severity of floods, and incr...

Flood Forecasting Using Artificial Neural Networks: an Application of Multi-Model Data Fusion technique

Floods are among the natural disasters that cause human hardship and economic loss. Establishing a viable flood forecasting and warning system for communities at risk can mitigate these adverse effects. However, establishing an accurate flood forecasting system is still challenging due to the lack of knowledge about the effective variables in forecasting. The present study has indicated that th...

Institutional Challenges to Robustness of Flood Plain Agricultural Systems

The farming of natural flood plains was in many parts of the world the cradle of civilization. The Nile Valley, the Indus Valley and Mesopotamia supported high cultures with complex social structures. These gradually harnessed and changed their own environment into what we often call a Constructed Social-Ecological System – or irrigation systems. The distinct path of development from natural ri...

Application of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) in Prediction Models in Risk Management

Due to lack of confidence, the process of decision making and planning is a difficult task. Various tools are available to help decision-makers and planners as well as risk management methods for prediction and planning. Being aware of the period and intensity of a phenomenon is the keystone of dealing with critical events in risk management, knowing that the relationships among involved factor...
